Welcome!

FEMME AU FONE is 2 years old! So the team celebrated the anniversary with an "open doors day" at Bukavu headquarters. In this newsletter you can view some photos of this event and read several articles on: The need for legal investigations of the sexual violations perpetrated in Shabunda; the actions undertaken by women from South Kivu around the elections in the DRCongo and the economic empowerment of rural women. Finally, you can watch our videoblog and listen to the radio campaign to raise awareness on women's safety.

LATEST: It is impossible to achieve justice for gender crimes without legal investigations

In the case of Kikamba, MSF states that 127 women went to its clinic pointing out that they had been raped; all of them were treated following the emergency treatment protocol. According to the provincial sector of this international organisation, Doctors without Borders inflates the data when it proceeds this way. This article includes an interview with the coordinator of MSF-Spain at the DR of Congo.

ELECTIONS 2015: Can we speak of a race already lost?

International and national women's rights organisations are mobilising support to encourage men, women and young to vote for those scarce female candidates that remain at the electoral lists. The campaign called « Nothing without women » (Rien sans les femmes) is one of them.

ARTICLE: A strategy for the economic empowerment of rural women

A group of 50 peasant women from Bukavu and from several territories of South Kivu plan to start up National Academy of Congolese women Peasants. This initiative has already been created at the North Kivu province.
